Tolerance Typical tolerance in most materials is +/- 0.005" (0.120mm), usually closer to 0.003". We cannot guarantee tolerances < 0.005".
Thickness Tolerances Thickness tolerances vary by material. The "industry standard" thickness may vary from the actual, measured thickness. Please review the specific material page for more details - https://sendcutsend.com/materials
Kerf / Lineside / Compensation Kerf is the material removed during cutting, and varies based on material and material thickness.
We automatically compensate for all kerf/line offsets in our software. We change the beam position based on the geometry of the part, and we are able to hold +/- .005" tolerance or better.
There is no need for you to compensate for beam width or kerf in your design. If you have any interior geometry with sharp corners, our laser beam-width is about .006". Non-laser cut materials will have different kerf widths based on tooling. Please review the materials page for more information.
If you don't know what kerf is, don't worry about it! :)
Tab and Slot Clearance If you plan on doing a tab a slot type of feature we typically recommend a 0.010" total clearance for mating parts, up to .015" for parts over 3/8" thickness.
